Volvo EX90: Electric and Safer Than Ever

On November 9, Volvo electric car unveiled its latest model: the EX90. This vehicle marks the beginning of the brand’s ambitious electrification plan by focusing on safety and performance.

Find out more about Volvo’s safest car, its technology and eco-friendly design, and finally its performance.

    EX90: The Safest with LiDAR

First, consumers sometimes ask: Is Volvo a good car? Of course, every manufacturer has its strengths and weaknesses, but we have to admit that the Swedish brand has always stood out from the rest in terms of safety and luxury.

In fact, Volvo has years of experience and innovation in safety, and this time it is taking it to the next level. Indeed, it is no longer limited to radars, using:

    • 16 ultrasonic sensors
    • 8 cameras
    • 5 radar systems

The new system is called LiDAR and monitors your Volvo EX90 from all sides... and even inside. In fact, it can detect signs of lack of concentration, impaired driving or falling asleep.

Outside, it can perceive objects up to 250 meters in front of you and does so with more accuracy than ever before thanks to the use of infrared light; even in total darkness!

Plus, Pilot Assist gives you new steering assistance when changing lanes, helping you drive with peace of mind.

Electric SUV: Advanced Technologies with AI

Not only safety, but also infotainment and battery management are optimized with new technologies. Volvo uses new software and a system powered by NVIDIA DRIVE artificial intelligence. This means your car will automatically update itself!

The infotainment system is a 14.5-inch screen including:

    • Google Assistant
    • Google Maps navigation
    • Google Play applications
    • Wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay
    • 5G connection

Consequently, the new electric SUV takes technology to another level.

    When Luxury and Ecology Meet

Inside, the sleek luxury typical of a Volvo is offered, but designed differently: without leather to respect the environment. That doesn’t stop it from focusing on quality and comfort:

“The materials used instead look high-end,
    especially the available wool fabric
that’s blended with plastic recovered from recycled bottles.”

    Drew Dorian, Car and Driver

Indeed, the use of sustainable materials is paramount:

    • Recycled plastics
    • Recycled steel
    • Recycled aluminum
    • Natural fibers

Therefore, the Volvo SUV offers both comfort and a quiet environmental conscience! The cabin also offers generous space for 7 adults.

    Volvo EX90: Aerodynamic Design

On the outside, the Volvo EX90 takes typical Volvo features, including electrically powered milling. In fact, it’s taken directly from the Recharge concept, which has refined, aerodynamic lines.

Its style is modern yet elegantly sober, especially in its choice of colors. Several shades of silver, gray, as well as a “Sand Dune” option and a denim blue are among the choices. One of its particularities, however, is its black roof, which also contains a camera, an integral part of the new security system.

Volvo Electric Car: A New Bidirectional Battery

Another new feature of this Volvo is the possibility of bidirectional charging with the battery. The battery can be used as a generator: it can power your devices as needed and can equally power your home!

It’s also a larger capacity battery than other Volvo vehicles. Comparatively, here is its technical sheet when compared to the current SUV, the compact C40:

    EX90

While the current vehicle excels, the latest addition goes further and paves the way Volvo Canada will take in the coming years. In fact, the brand plans to market one new electric vehicle per year until it offers only electric options!
